"Here in Contra Costa County," explains county supervisor John Gioia proudly, "we go from San Francisco Bay to the Delta, and we represent every slice of life in California."
Supervisor Gioia, who has served on the county’s board since 1998, notes that as a whole, the area has been very progressive about environmental and climate change policies, and so Renovate America’s HERO Program is a natural fit. "We’re real excited about having the HERO Program available to Contra Costa residents."
Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) programs like HERO are an innovative way to finance home upgrades that save energy and water. Our program is currently available to the majority of California communities and is also expanding to other states, including Missouri and Florida.
Contra Costa County’s Spanish name refers to its position across the bay from San Francisco.
Says Supervisor Gioia of his own constituents, "We want to have residents understand that there are great financing options like HERO to do energy improvements that will save you money in the long run, lower your energy bill, and modernize and improve your house and make it more comfortable."
As he explains, these upgrades are repaid by over a number of years through an assessment on the home’s property taxes, making it a convenient and accessible option for many.
"It’s an easy process, and we’re looking forward to homeowners taking advantage of the program to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions [and] to save money on energy improvements." He adds, "It’s really a win-win all the way around."
