HERO Program Launches in Missouri

In the Community
September 16, 2016

We are excited to share some big news. As of this week, the HERO Program, which before now has been exclusive to California, is now available to Missouri homeowners in the Kansas City portion of Jackson County, plus other communities in Jackson County!

Since HERO launched in the Golden State in 2012, we’ve become the largest residential PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program in the United States, despite being limited to only one state. In California to date, we’ve improved over 76,000 homes, created over 15,000 jobs, and lowered homeowner utility bills by more than $3 billion over the lifetime of the upgrades.

Now, we look forward to expanding our innovative program to the Midwest’s Show-Me State. Just as in California, homeowners in eligible Missouri communities will be able to make home energy upgrades with no upfront cash outlay repaid over time through their property taxes. HERO upgrades may increase property values, can help lower monthly utility bills, and contribute to making communities more energy independent. Plus, the interest on the payments may be deductible; be sure to consult your tax adviser to learn more.

The major difference between our program in the two states is that water-saving improvements, popular in California with the continuing drought, are not eligible in Missouri at this time.

Our video team traveled to Missouri to capture the excitement of local elected officials, green energy advocates, and contractors in the months leading up to our official launch. In the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing these videos and conversations with you!
