Since HERO® launched in 2011, Renovate America has been on a mission to help people invest in their homes and save energy and water. As Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) grew, and business grew with it, that mission evolved as one thing became very clear.

Property Owners Need Additional Support

As they go through the process of making significant investments in their homes or commercial properties, property owners need support each step of the way and people they know they can count on.

They need to know that their vision is going to come true. So Renovate America requires contractors to agree that they won’t be funded until the property owner has signed off that the project has been completed to their satisfaction.

Renovate America’s HERO Program has grown into the nation’s largest PACE program by focusing on the greater good. By committing to serving homeowners, their contractors, the municipalities that they live in and everyone else behind the scenes, the result has been exponential growth.

Renovate America has developed safeguards that provide the sense of clarity and security that property owners need to feel confident about starting and completing their HERO project. 

The Gold Standard in Green Bonds

With the help of global investors, HERO uses private capital to drive public good through Green Bonds—which are fully aligned with ICMA Green Bond Principles and have received Sustainalytics second-party opinions. In 2016, Renovate America was second only to Toyota in the volume of Green U.S. Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) bonds issued.

Fully Integrated Technology with Personal Support for Every Sector

Renovate America has created the PACE industry’s first technology platform that gives stakeholders access to the information they need in real time.

Homeowners can complete an online application with same-day approvals, and find experienced, local contractors for every type of PACE project. They can also track their project status and view financial documents. HERO Property Advisors are also available and dedicated to helping real estate professionals, lenders and property owners during the buying, selling or refinancing process.

Contractors receive an on-site orientation as well as access to HERO Pro training modules with information on the consumer safeguards around HERO. Every contractor who works with HERO is required to comply with industry standards and our code of conduct. They also benefit from interactive tools including estimating calculators and job tracking dashboards, and are given step-by-step guidance as well as a marketing resource center. Contractors may also be eligible for resources to help streamline processes with distributors and obtain capital to help their businesses grow.

Government officials and staff have access to a dedicated market development representative to provide education and continued support, as well as assistance responding to constituent inquiries. Local governments are also given access to interactive maps displaying projected energy, environmental and utility bill savings alongside the total number of applications, homes improved and types of projects completed for each community. 

Issuing Partners also have a customized portal which enables simple program administration with less time and few resources.
