"It gets very hot here during the summer," explains El Cajon, CA homeowner Shawn Killpack. "We tend to run the air conditioning a lot."
Last year, Shawn and his family used the HERO Program to finance home solar, including solar pool heating. "Without [HERO] I don’t think we would have done it. Now with the solar, I think we feel a lot more comfortable running the air conditioner longer. And then the pool heating really makes the pool a lot more usable."
Prior to going solar, high electricity bills were the norm for the Killpack household. But now, explains Shawn, "We don’t have to worry that we’re going to open our bill next month and it’s going to be 600, 700 dollars from the electric company." He adds, "Our bill for last month was negative $32!"
There was another benefit as well: "And we actually did see some property value increase on our house, so it added value by having it."
In conclusion, Shawn says, "It feels really good to have an electric system that we can depend on."
